Just a quick shout out to all that came out to the City Creamery for “Ice Cream at Sunset” on March 2nd to help raise money for the Foothills Food Bank. It was a great night. We’d also like to thank the raffle prize donors including the Prickly Pear Inn, Rancho Mañana Golf Club, JH Grass Fed Beef and Mongrel Design Interiors. We look forward to doing it again soon!

It was recently announced that the former Elysian Desert Distilleries has now changed its name to Carefree Spirits Distillery. Renea McQuiggan, President of the company said, “We are very excited to expand our operation in the same town where Carefree Bourbon and Chakra Vodka came to life.”

McQuiggin also stated the company purchased a 1-acre parcel of land in Carefree on Cave Creek Road just South of Tom Darlington. “This parcel is in an amazing location for the company to build  the distillery bottling plant, tasting room, gift shop and event center. We believe this will become a distination location as the company expands its production to a national level,” she said. It is anticipated that the new distillery operations could open by the middle of 2022.

Everyone loves ice cream and nobody does it better than The City Creamery in Cave Creek! The Cave Creek Visitor’s Guide publisher, Dale Samar, has teamed up with Chelsea Flaherty from The City Creamery to help raise money for the Foothills Food Bank on Tuesday, March 2nd from 5 – 7pm. Please come out to support all the businesses in the Prickly Pear Plaza and have some of the best ice cream in the country to help our local food bank! “I’ve been a regular at The City Creamery since they opened so I wanted to make sure everyone in town comes out to enjoy ice cream the way I do,” said Samar. “It’ll be a great evening to sit outside and enjoy the sunset along with some delicious, hand-crafted ice cream in Cave Creek”

A Short History of the Chiefs

The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed its current name.

The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the merger in 1970, and had early success, winning the SuperBowl in 1969, with players like quarterback Len Dawson and powerful defensive players like Bobbie Bell and Emmitt Thomas, and of course, Coach Hank Stram. Although always a contender, the Chiefs didn’t make back to the Superbowl until 2019, where under the skilled leadership of Andy Reid, and led by second year phenom quarterback Patrick Mahomes, they again captured the Lombardi Trophy!

Premium Bourbon and Vodka from Carefree & Cave Creek

With two tasting rooms within a few miles, Elysian Desert Distilleries has quickly created a buzz within the Cave Creek and Carefree communities. However, the process of producing Bourbon and Vodka takes time. The Carefree Bourbon that you drink today has been aged in charred oak barrels for years which allows for the perfect taste to be derived from the mixture of corn, rye and malt developed under the watchful eye of Renea and Michael McQuiggan.

The story of this journey to produce a high-quality brand of spirits actually began generations ago when Renea’s grandfather started acquiring farmland in north east Kansas with some of the finest soil in the country. This soil helps produce a superior quality of crops for the main ingredients that are now used in the premium products of Carefree Bourbon and Chakra Vodka.

Abigail Merritt, Renea’s daughter, developed the idea for this line of Vodka. Chakra is derived from the Sanskrit word meaning “wheel” or ‘circle.” Chakras are dynamic energy pockets that control and energize the vital organs of the body both physical as well as mental. We’re starting to put the guide together a little earlier this year to help with busy production schedule throughout the upcoming year. The rates have been updated on the advertising page. I’ve also included a note I received from our distribution partner at Sky Harbor airport. Visitors love the guides!

The new guides for the 2019-2020 season have arrived and distribution started on August 31st throughout Cave Creek. The hotel and visitor centers will receive the first batch of guides in the coming week as well. The guides turned out great.
